Eight years ago, when a friend of mine went to prison, I took his Amazon Parrot. She is a good bird, no bad habits, good talker, and friendly. I kept her with my rescues, which is why I've never mentioned her. Our deal was that if she remembered him, and wanted to go back with him, I'd give her back. Her and I have developed quite a close relationship.
I know he missed her, and I gave him updates on her whenever we spoke or wrote. Well, today he was released. So, I brought her to him.
When she saw him, she went crazy! She couldn't get to him fast enough! She was cooing, and clucking, and making kissing noises, and other sounds that he nor I have ever heard her make. She crawled all over him, and would not leave him. What a joyous reunion!
Needless to say, they are back together again. And neither one could be happier! That shows me that our angels never forget us. I'll miss her, but, can go see her whenever I want. A very happy ending that I am happy to be part of.

Best post I've seen in a long time.....

That's a very nice thing you did!!!! Not all birds are joyous to meet their former care giver as Java did not care for his former care giver as he had him for years. He rather come to me instead. So I guess it depends on how deep your relationship is with the bird to have that sort of connection.

Oh my goodness, what a heartwarming story!! I know they have super long memories. I bet your friend was in heaven when he got such a great welcome back from his feathered friend! You are a super good friend too, taking such great care of his parrot all these years for him!

Aww, that was a very sweet story :)

I think most (or maybe some) parrots can be as loyal as a dog can be. It's a fact that parrots are very intelligent animal, and can remember stuff just like cats and dogs do. Being a parrot and a dog owner, I think parrots in some way, can is be smarter than dogs.

What a lovely story Bill and with such a happy ending:) It just goes to show that Birds never forget.

That is so so sweet, that bird must have loved him so much! So happy they can be together again. :)

I always wondered if they do recognise their former owners. they are extremely intelligent critters so I thought they would. Glad to read that story that was really nice:)

Many years ago i had a panama hen that i took from a wild nest, my GF's sister wanted one so the next year i took one from another nest and gave it to her. 5-6 yrs later i ended up with both birds and kept them in the same cage. My GF and i where then living in the States and when we broke up, she kept the Zons. This was about 1980 , many years later, 2005 , i contacted her and asked about the pair. My hen had died a few years earlier but they still had the male ,Kia. They didn't want him any more because he was unhandlable after losing his mate. "Sure" i said i'll take him. After 25 years it was like we'd never been apart. He when to saying and singing all the old stuff and loved to be with me. Trust me, they never forget. Sadly he died last summer of liver issues but taught the whole outside flock of zons his many songs and favorite sayings. So Kia and my old hen ,Floyd , are still with me. I hear them every morning and night when feeding the outside flock.

Billsbirds and Henpeck, those are both lovely and very heartwarming stories. Thanks for sharing!

I moved to LA 2.5 years ago and can only afford to go home twice a year. My birds always give me a HUGE welcome whenever I come home. Makes me feel so happy! But then makes it so much harder when I have to leave again.

These are the kind of things that make me love parrots 10000000x more! :D

After I got Hahnzel I wanted to take him with me to the breeders place when I picked up new food about a year after. He flat out told me no since the bird would remember him from the weaning and hatchling phase and wouldnt want to come to me.
