Hi all so I'm not sure how far around the world the news has spread but yesterday arvo new Zealand is believed to have lost 29 men in a coal mine explosion

They had been trapped down there since Friday arvo ( my time ) when a spark caused an explosion

The blast was so severe it travelled 2.5km uphill out of the mine

Gas had been building up and methan levels were at 95% making rescue unsafe

There was still hope of some men still possibly being alive but after the 2nd even more powerful explosion yesterday it Is now believed impossible for anyone to have survived

I do not personaly know any of these men but my heart goes out to them and all of their families
one guy was just 17yrs old on his 1st day of work
he had loved it so much he stayed for a 2nd shift which is when the explosion happened

I ask please for you all to take just one minutes silence to pray for all if these lost lives and their families left behind

May they rest in peace and know they were all loved
XXXXXXX

Thank you for posting this.

My prayers are for them and their families.

Oh Gosh, what terrible news!! My thoughts and prayers are with them and their families during this tragic horrible time. God Bless.

Sadly we have to hope they died from the first explosion, otherwise they would have died painfully and slowly due to the gas. It's a very tragic thing.

So many father's, sons, brother's and friends, taken away so suddenly and tragically.
The family of the South African that died tragically, is leaving for New Zealand today.
My prayers go out to all the families during this sad sad time.
God bless them all

It's strange I don't know a single one of them yet I feel so shocked and in disbelive
I have cried several times today with thoughts of these poor men and of their families
their community
this was 29 people from a 300-400 person population community
it's effects are like someone setting a bomb off in times square

Maybe it's the pregnancy hormones I don't know but I'm in total shock about it
:(

I have been reading this sad story in the papers.

It is terrible that such an accident happened and that the circumstances were not similar to the mines in Chilli.

Coming from a tiny place myself, I know their devestation as even when one person died tragically the whole village would be in mourning for weeks.

I can't imagine what their loved ones are going through. My heart goes out to them.

Maybe this tragedy will result in better safety measures for miners.
