I am considering getting a rescue AG. The problem, he won't stop picking. I really love this bird and I want to make it work with him, but what can I do to keep him from picking?

She (its a friends bird I'm considering adopting) got him from our Pre Vet instructor, who is an exotic vet. She is the one who initially rescued him, so anything medical has been ruled out. He is 10, and was locked in a cage most of his life. She has ruled out any possible medical issues, even gave him surgery on the wing (where he picks) to keep the feathers from ever growing back there. He is on an herbal calming supplement as well as pain relievers. I really don't like the food that he is on (its the Zupreem one for AGs, with all sorts of pretty colored puffs) and he doesn't get any sort of human food at all, just his food. That will change as soon as he comes here (they are moving in, and if all goes well then he will just stay with me) Thank you for the link, I will be bookmarking itI have seen many AG that were rescued and were pluckers. It takes a long time to get them back to feather. Two things that need to be done are 1, a vet visit to r/o any medical reason and the 2 thing is to make sure the diet is appropriate for the bird. This would be pellets, fresh foods, vegies and fruit, grains, all the nuts but not peanuts, seed only as a treat, legumes. YOu can read up on their diet on almost any AG site. https://companionparrotonline.com/metz_inside_mind.html
