Howie - Vos Eclectus, Kiku -Quaker
So I placed a deposit on a male vos ekkie about a month ago, his hatch date was 1/21/12. The time is getting closer, and I'm getting very excited. The breeder told me she doesn't force weaning so I'm patiently waiting for her to tell me he is ready! Also my breeder is not in the same state as me so she will be shipping him, I am certainly nervous about the entire process I have never had an animal shipped or picked one up at an airport. I discussed my apprehension with the breeder before I even placed a deposit and she told me all kinds of reassuring things, but I won't be ok until he is here safe and healthy. I am new to the "Parrot Forums" but not new to parrot ownership I have a 10 year old quaker (Kiku) that I have had her entire life. She is a bit of a terror more times then not, but I love her to pieces even if she tears me to pieces! Anyways I remember seeing a female eclectus in a pet store when I was little and thinking that is the most beautiful bird I have ever seen, and then I saw the male eclectus and that was it I was fascinated. I knew one day I would have one. Now that day has come and I am just beyond excited. My husband is even excited, Kiku is not a big fan of my husband, so he is excited to have a parrot he can grow with and interact with as well. Now that I have rambled on I will post a picture of my new baby the most recent one I have is from late March early April all my other pictures of him are videos the breeder sent me. Also we are still debating on names Tobi, Beans, or Howie. Leaning more towards Tobi, I love Beans but it doesn't end in that "ee" sound Beansie? lol

Hello and welcome to the Forum :) Congrats on your new Baby Ekkie.. You must be very excited:) I like the name Tobi .

I know that many Members on the Forum have had their new additions shipped with no problems.. Just the other day a Member on here... Sadie .. had her new Baby shipped... Maybe you could PM her to put your mind at rest :)

He looks adorable :)

Congratulations! Handsome boy and WELCOME!!!

Lucky you, Eclectus parrots are really something special indeed. You are about to receive a very special gift that you will enjoy for many, many years.

I'm also in central Florida, which breeder are you using? Are they local to you? They sound like they really care about their animals.

What a beautiful bird. He looks incredibly healthy! I have to say, I love the name Beans-- you could say "Beanie" to shorten if you want. My son's name is Walker and I call him "walks--" so the "s" at the end kind of works sometimes!

hi! congrats on your new baby!
Yup, my little guy came in on a 7 hour flight and came out of the crate like he had been in there for 5 minutes :)
I was worried about the whole process too but it really is pretty easy, although very nerve-wracking!

feel free to pm me if you have any Qs or anything at all :)

i LOVE the name beans!

I think the name Howie is very cute.

I vote Howie/Toni.

Congratulations on your baby, he looks beautiful and I'm sure you'll enjoy him!

What a beautiful baby!!! I am excited for you!! Congrats!!!! I like both names Tobi and Beans!! Good Luck.

Thank you very much for all the welcomes, and reassuring comments! Sadie I did read your thread and I'm very glad that there was a happy ending to such an unfortunate beginning. Mike my breeder is in California, after all my searching and talking to different breeders it just so happens the one I felt most comfortable with was nearly the farthest away I could possibly get! Her website has recently gone under contruction for a new site but her name is Carol Stanley in Vacaville, CA. She has been very nice. As for names I guess I will have to see his personality but I really think its going to be Tobi/Tobious =) Oh Sadie what name did you end up choosing for your little man?

I recieved new pictures of "Tobi", she said he is still on formula, but not a lot, and that she is waiting until he rejects it completely. So here is the latest - he's having dinner. :)

I'm also going to become a new Ekki moms as of Saturday, picking him/her up from Charleston, I'm leaning towards a male but I want the baby to chose me :) The colors of the female are beautiful but so are the males :) I can't wait! Going to name my bird 'Chooie' not sure on the spelling yet lol. Will post pics when I have them, lots of luck to the both of us!

I LOVE YOUR NEW PICS OF 'TOBI' and I Love his name! Way too cute!

Wee, new birdies, we all love new birdies. Post pictures when you get them! :)

Lola, what are you feeding your new birdie, who by the way is gorgeous!

Julie how exciting! I'm completely with you, and the anticipation is killing me! I don't have my baby boy yet, but I just got the news today that he is ready to come home to me! She is going to give me his daily routine and his current diet so his transition is easier on him. From what she's told me he is eating a lot of fresh foods, which I'm happy to hear. I love the name you've picked out! My cats name is Chewbaca "Chewie" so I adore it!

Will keep posted on arrival and of course pictures!!! Yay!

Congrats! U said u liked Bean but didn't end in ee how about Beanie? Whatever u pick it will be great! Also I am a breeder and I have never(knock on wood) had anything happen to 1 of my birds in shipping. The airline guarantees live arrival and they have to pay u for the bird if something happens so they take care of them, they don't want to have to pay u for the bird! I know things happen but I am sure everything will be just fine! Like I said I have been shipping for years and never had a problem.

I just hung out with the coolest 6 yr old female ekki. Her name is Shine....she was amazing so smart I was impressed with her verbal abilities she hangs upside down ....you are in for a treat.

Ok! He is going to be here tomorrow! His flight gets in late at 11:49 pm I am so excited! Poor guy is going to be exhausted I bet. I am terrified still I won't be ok until he is here with me safe and sound.

Congrats... I bet you wont sleep tonight! Dont worry, he will be fine :)

Dont forget to post some pics when he has settled in!
