As some of you know, we adopted a 13 yr old sweet male Sun Conure about a month ago. He was having some depression issues because he came from a great home and was with them almost his whole life. A lot of you gave me some great advice and our sweet Rudy is finally coming around :) but yesterday we got some sad but great news. I have been in constant contact with Rudy's parents who miss him dearly! They visited a different doctor and was devistated to find out that they infact COULD keep a bird (with precautions). The woman was heart broken that she gave Rudy up because her other doctor gave her a definite NO! I congradulated her and told her that it would be wrong for me to keep Rudy away from her and her away from Rudy. So they are very excited to come get their baby Saturday. This left me very sad, but still excited for her (she has been through so much). Later the husband called and said that he appreciated my understanding so much that he went out and bought a 2 month old very sociable sun conure for me. Yes, I cried and told him that that wasn't necessary, but he insisted. I couldn't say no. Ok so, after all that back ground story (sorry so long) here is my question. I have never owned a baby conure that young. Growing up I helped my dad raise Cockatoos, but that was 20 years ago. Can anyone point me to a trusted website for information or let me know of anything special I might need to shop for or tips would be greatly appreciated! Are sun conure still hand fed at 2 months old? What is best to house them in? (Cage w/ perches, bottom of cage with blanket?) 2 months just seems really young. I will make an appointment with the vet for next week, but can anyone give me a heads up on what to expect till then? Thank you all in advance.

I think you havent gotten any replies on this thread because of the question you asked...
everything you need to know can be found right here in this conure forum!

I am new to birds as well, and just reading thru threads has told me most of what I need to know, then I ask my questions if need be...

Pretty much every situation can be found on this website, in one one section or another, and if your specific question hasnt been asked already, then ask it ;) (even if its been asked before, sometimes a new thread makes for new ideas)

This website has some proud members, understandably so, and even me as a newer member I was wtf does this person mean "can somebody point me to a trusted website"... YOU ARE ALREADY HERE!!!

No offense intended, just a light-hearted attempt at a sarcastic reply to the obvious ;)

If he is already weaned (Hopefully he's weaned) there is really nothing different except that he may be very beaky. It's your job to teach him that beaks are not for biting. Young birds use their beaks a lot and if he bites accidently and you react you are teaching him that biting gets results.

Other than that Great Story!
Good luck with your little guy.

I have to agree, you are at the best site for info! Just ask and thou shall receive!
