Blue-Fronted Amazon-Lucy
I bought a blue-fronted Amazon a month and a half ago. She is about 8 months old and has had socialization. The problem is she is completely silent. She never makes noise. Once in a long while she will say I love you and Hello, but she barely ever makes a peep. I am wondering if there could be medical problem or if she is still just adjusting. She steps up very well and loves to be on my shoulder. She has gotten aggressive before and I had some injuries, but I am working with her and she loves me and I love her. I am just wondering, since I am a new large parrot owner, if she will begin to make more noise or if she is naturally just a silent bird.:green2:

My blue front is a pretty quiet guy most of the time (he's 16+). When he WANTS to be though, his jungle calls could shatter glass and bring the house down! I count myself as lucky to have a generally quiet boy. He's quite happy and healthy, just quiet. Don't be alarmed though if one day your zon does decide to vocalize. You may want your ear plugs on hand:)

:) Nothing better than a blue fronted birdie kiss! Ours is also a ravenous smooch monster. The blue fronts sure are affectionate when they are happy, well adjusted birds!:green:

Awww!

Too cute!

When mopar was first brought home, he was pretty silent, as well. A few months went by, and he started talking. Ever since he has been picking up more and more words and phrases. He does "scream" at times, now. But it's not all the time, and typically at dusk.

He seems to prefer to use his words instead, since we answer his inquiries with words. Not so much when he screams. Lol!

I subscribe to the camp of flock communication. Use words and sounds, like you would with anyone else, and they seem to pick up on that as the better way to communicate.

If that makes sense. Lol

Hello there, Welcome to the forum. Beautiful Amazon.

It sounds like you're making good progress, I think if you give her more time she will reward you with more happy vocalizations.

I remember when I brought poppie home, my BFA, she didn't make a sound and seemed depressed....but it is part of the grieving process of going from one place to another. Give it time and patience, they do open up and that's when you'll crave that silence...lol.

My other BFA (Vinny) did same thing.....she now is lively and chatty but took a couple months. More like 3 months...Poppie took nearly 6 months before she accepted me....But now I'm her best friend and mate.

Ohhh you can say that again....Poppie (My BFA) is a kisser, she'll get on me and lean over to kiss and then nod her head to the left ( a roll to the left or right) depending on which way she wants to go. it's pointing to the direction she wants to go then says (mama....want mama) so I hand her over to my wife which also gets a kiss. Then she wants back over to me to groom me and sing.

At nite when she heads to bed, she'll climb to her ring above the cage to sleep....but if she forgets a kiss...I'll say "did you forget something? No kiss tonite?"....she comes back down to my arm, gives me a kiss and says " Nite nite....see in morning"...then back up she goes to her ring without telling her to. Shes a doll....Gotta love a BFA.

My Grey could give a rats hind end about a kiss at bed time....He's like " oh bite me "....

Aww..very pretty blue fronted! My BFA was only quiet for a couple days when I brought her home, but she wouldn't come to me for 2 months. Now she gives me constant kisses. You're doing great with her if you already get kisses!

Amazons are usually known for being noisy, but don't be alarmed if yours is fairly quiet. I would just enjoy it and don't oomplain about it :P
