Now that the weather's getting cooler, I wanted to find out what temperature's too cold for conures. One of my duskys was trembling a little when I picked him up today, and I'm beginning to wonder if our house might be a bit too cool for him.

He's all nestled into the crook of my neck right now and is no longer trembling.

I was just wondering this too, and about to start a thread. We our house temperature at 60 degrees F and I was wondering if that would be too cold for my nanday conure. There is a flock of wild conures that live outdoors all year in my city, so I know they can handle cold temperatures, but Jade is a feather plucker so she has less insulation.

I keep my house at 75 I dont let it dip below 72 because of my eclectus

I dont know the exact temperature My vet just has told me 72-76 is a good temp for the house

Ive read in a couple other threads that they do ok in cooler temps if that is what they are used to. If you take them from consistant 75 and all of a sudden take them to 60 they will suffer. Also as we all know keep them out of drafts. I have a thermo perch and love it. I live in So California so its usually always warm but like the warm perch just in case my baby gets chilled with the AC or anything. This might be an option for you just in case. Ive read our lil guys loose heat through their lil feet like we do our heads. Ths thermo perch is just barely warm, but I think just enough for them. Ps if you do get one know that they run big! The small is quite big.

That's a great idea, and one that I've not heard even existed. But then again, I'm very new to bird ownership.

I'm also in San Diego. Did you pick it up locally?

No neither of the bird stores here have them. I ordered mine from Dr Foster and Smith.

I don't worry about temperatures and try to make sure to expose Rosie to all sorts of different temps. I wouldn't take her out in anything I wouldn't want to be out in though, if it's to hot for me it's to hot for her, if it's to cold for me it's to cold for her.

There are wild parrots in San Diego....

We're getting into cooler temperatures as well, and my birds have gone through winters where at night, the temperature (inside) dipped into the lower 50's and would warm back up to high 60's or low 70's during the day. My cherry headed conure that I had even endured these temps, and he was missing all of his stomach feathers. Ya, there were mornings when he was visibly cold, but he adapted right along with all the feathered birds!

The best thing is to watch your bird. If your bird is cold, then he/she will be fluffed up/shivering. If your bird is too hot, then he/she will have sleek feathers, wings slightly spread and panting (in a similar fashion to a dog).

Kiwi seems to prefer warmer temperatures, but with the cooling outside temperature, and my old rental suite, it can be pretty tough to keep the temperature constant. I don't believe I have a thermostat so I don't really know what I keep it at..
