Does anyone have both an Amazon and a Cockatoo? I'm wondering if they would be OK out on perches, but in different parts of the room? I have to take out three sets of birds, which is very time consuming. If these two could come out at the same time, everybody would get more outside time.
Thanks

What type of Amazon & what type of Cockatoo do you have specifically?
Are their wings clipped?
I think that the only way to really know is to have them close but not actually so close that they could touch & see how they respond to each other.
If you do this watch their body language very closely.
I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND LEAVING THEM ALONE UNATTENDED out of their cages.
They could hurt or injure each other or even worse.

I have a female Blue Front Amazon and a male Rosebreasted Cockatoo. I wouldn't call them buddies but they happily ignore one another and are safe out in the same room at the same time (on top of their cages, on play gyms, or at the table with us). I have an 10' diameter outdoor aviary on my back porch, and I can put the two of them in it together (duplicate food and water bowls on opposites sides of the unit) on a nice days with zero problems. They seem to enjoy the proximity of the other without getting in their own personal space. My Grey is a totally different story, though. My female Amazon HATES (and I do me LOATHES) my male Grey (DNA'd TWICE because I thought there HAD to be a reason for her to dislike him that much). She will divebomb him if he's out of his cage in the same room with her, and she will also bite a human that walks too close to the Grey's cage, just as a displaced aggression type thing. I've never seen a bird hate another one with such a dedicated passion. So, I'm not sure it has anything to do with the TYPE of parrot but is probably more related to individual personalities. Good luck with yours!

I have a U2 and orange wing amazon that are both out all day. The amazons wings are clipped but the cockatoo isn't( she has no clue she can fly i have been trying to get her to do it for over a year). There playstands are about 6 foot apart. The cockatoos is a half a foot taller so that keeps her top bird and keeps her happy. So far both are getting along great and seem to want to be friends. My cockatoo hates my sun conure so his cage with the play top is on the other side of the room to keep him safe. Just make sure you are in the same room as the birds until you know how they will act with each other.

Thanks. I had them both out, but far away. All seemed to be well. I was ready just in case. The Amazon was totally ticked off - first time he's bit at me in awhile. They did ignore each other for the most part. Nobody tried to fly at the other. The sun conure is a different story though......... She dislikes my son, the grandson, and apparently the too.

When my birds are out they have their own toys at the playstands they should be on. But i do have 3 of the same toy of ever toy for play stands. That way no one wants anyone elses toy lol. I found as long as they have plenty to do they stay on the stand happy and get along just fine. From what i understand your birds are fully flighted so just keep a close eye on them until the settle down and get used to being out at the same time.
