I don't know if any of you caught this, but the Jan. 08 issue of Bird Talk has done a whole special edition on Alex. And they also released the final findings of the Necropsy ... Alex died of Arteriosclerosis, or hardening of the Arteries, "It might have been a heart attack, or a stroke or a fatal arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat) that lead to his quick and painless death." (pg.9)
The article goes on to say that all test results came back normal, including cholesterol levels. The Alex Foundation has hypothesized that, just like in humans, heart disease could be passed from parent (or parront, in this case) to child in parrots just like in humans.
So, it looks like even with his death, Alex will continue to advance scientific research
