So I took sherlock in for a check up and nail trim. Everything looked great on exam. Great body wight nice bright beautiful feathers. Nice and healthy. Now here's the annoying part. The tech took sherly to the back to draw blood and for a nail trim., he came back with 1 tail feather. Doc gave me the stress mechanism lecture. I told him this has never happened before. He gave me a pat on the back and told me to have a great day.
I've seen him drop a feather or two during a nail trim or beak trim, but this just feels excessive. I'm a small animal tech for cats and dogs. I get it stuff happens but I'm just soooo pissed right now.

That is annoying! D: If I went to a vet, and my bird came back with one or two feathers I'd be pissed.

Looks like you don't live that far from me, I highly recommend doctor fern who owns the clinic "for the birds". She does everything routine in front of me and would only do otherwise if it was requested. Obviously surgeries and such would be done away from the parront. My birds have never lost a large feather while being toweled during exams, or having blood drawn. And I'd never go to a vet who doesn't do so in my presence. This way if your bird did loose it's tail at least you where there to see it happen, and know that the vet either was or wasn't handling your bird appropriately

I love sherlock to bits but that's quite the trek. He offers to do it in front of me, but he knows me too well I'm a freak about blood draws on my own animals. It's in all my pets charts lol.

yeah haha, I'd think it would be an hour or more for you to drive over. But that's good he has the option for you to watch, it means he's at least competent.

If you're ever in San Jose and I'm free send me a pm, can free fly shaymus for you ;)

My brother would absolutely LOVE that. Huge raptor fan!

That's great! What's not to love about raptors lol. He pretty much flies daily unless it's exceptionally stormy or if he were unwell. A lot of fun for us bird nerds.

Dear ACE209, I would be ticked too. I would ask to some compensation(free service) or maybe change vets. No apology nothing, I would be a lot ticked. Best Wishes, Bonita

My birds always had everything done with me watching, and I feel safer with that. (I honestly wish I could be with my dogs for everything too, because I feel it is comforting to them to know their person is standing by.)
Sorry about your little guy being scared and losing his feathers. Even though they grow back obviously, just the thought of it would be upsetting to me too.
