Another big cook tomorrow - question

Hey guys!

It's time for me to do another bit cook for Jasper's dinners tomorrow. I'm getting all my groceries today and everything I need.

I bought six large plastic mixing bowls from the dollar store before and other places that I use every time. I was suddenly wondering though how safe that is. As soon as each item of food is cooked it goes into the bowls to mix when I'm all finished. Would the plastic be somehow leaking in? I don't know.

Not sure what else I could use since I'm making up enough food for four months and have to mix it in something!

When I do a big chop, I use either large pans or casserole dishes to cool off the hot things in. We had been using a plastic bowl, and then I noticed that the plastic was peeling inside it.

Hi Katie I would think that if the food is only in them for a short period of time ie during preparation it would be ok. Are they designed to be used for food? Make sure that you don't pierce the plastic with anything sharp so the surface stays intact.

Thanks guys! Appreciate the replies. My parents had a great idea - use my slow cooker pot to mix everything in. It's definitely safe.

I always make up three different types of dinners for Jasper so I'll just make up one at a time / bag, then do the other two. I don't know why I never thought of the plastic bowls until now but better late than never I suppose!

Hi Katie it looks like Jasper is a lucky fid with three types of dinner would love to see some pics if poss. BTW I usually use glass bowls or general kitchen cake mixing bowls but that's just because they are big and I already have them. Happy cooking!

Hi there, I use stainless steel and crockery like your slow cooker pot. I hadn't thought about plastic but great question. I've never been one to use plastic because I don't like how they can bubble or soak up colors like grease from certain foods, they're pores. I also do not use wood utensils or cutting boards for the same reasons. I do use plastic cutting boards to chops veggies, then put them in the dishwasher for super hot cleaning.
