Curious if anyone here has, or knows any older or elderly pionus?

I hear they can reach 40 years old, but don't know how well this maximum age is established.

I know of a Maximilian who is 17, and my WCP will be 14 in the spring. I am curious to hear other ages as well, good question!

I met someone who had a pair of them that was in their mid 20's.

What kind, Mark?

Blueheaded Pionus... pretty birds, but BITERS!

We're lucky, Talli, our BHP, just loves snuggles:)

Pi's are large enough they should be "able" to live beyond 40, but I don't think there were very many people who had them as pets that long ago to really get a good enough sample to give you an average. I think like any creature or human, it can really vary with the individual even with decent genetics, diet, and lifestyle.

I know of someone who had a Maximillian's they got in the 70's who lived to be I think he said 31.

I get the sense that those two haven't been handled much in recent years...

My Raven has his daddy who can handle him. Me, his 'real' owner, the person who basically makes sure he stays alive? Not so much lol. In order to step him up, I MUST have a treat every single time. He has me trained?

My Maxi I've had for 23 almost 24 years (hand fed baby) and I have a 19 going on 20 year old bronze wing... I guess they aren't seniors, middle aged??

They could be the senior pis of Parrot Forums.. I loved hearing all the pi ages :) may they all live long happy lives.

My white capped pionus is almost 21. I've had him going on 15 years. I don't keep good track of that stuff so I was shocked when the vet looked at his band and said he was 20 last year.
