Anyone else ever attempted to stop using 'chapstick'?

There was a pink, strawberry flavored chap-stick that came in a tin...maybe white or dark blue?(I was a big fan as a kid). Is that the same thing?

I have been (very gently) rubbing my lips with a washcloth to gently exfoliate and putting just a little oil on them before bed so I can sleep, but I don't want to be putting anything else on them because that defeats the whole purpose of stopping using lip balm. No point in simply switching from one brand to another. I can only hope they get used to producing their own moisture soon and heal. On my 4th cycle now of peeling/bleeding. Ugh. What misery over such an innocuous seeming product. I had no clue how much damage it was doing to my body! Oh and here in Oregon at least, it's much moister indoors in the winter when it rains constantly and you don't want to open doors/windows to let in fish air because it's damp and cold out than the summer when we get little or no rain for months on end. We actually have to run a dehumidifier all winter long or it'll get up to 70/80% humidity in here!

So I have been trying to cut out my remains few 'bad habits', the continual application of l'chapstick' being one of them. 10+ times a day bad habit and feelings of panic whenever I went out and forgot it etc... Not necessarily chapstick brand, I have used more organic types for years but nonetheless it has been a MISERABLE past 2 weeks. Lips peel, crack, bleed, repeat and feel HORRIBLE, like I have 60 grit sandpaper instead of lips (which are a far more sensitive body part than I ever realized before!). Holy crap, I never knew this stuff could be so bad since it seems so innocent. I grew up in the 90's, started using "lip smackers' in grade school so it's a pretty much lifelong habit. Apparently, I'm not the only one who's had this kind of reaction either. All kinds of stories on the internet of people developing similar issues for months after ceasing the use of lip balms and that some companies even add specific ingredients to make it "addictive" (i.e. so uncomfortable to stop using you never do). The feeling it of it not being on my lips just feels...wrong. I quit smoking cold turkey years ago which is supposedly one of the hardest addictions to break and even that was a less agitating process than this has been. Never again!

Any of you ever tried to stop using this stuff and had this kind of reaction? Or anyone out there brave enough to dare to try giving it up;)

Oh my god, LIPSMACKERS!!! You're a 90's kid too, huh? Yeah, the birth of the fun and addictive lip balms...

I was all about the Dr. Pepper flavor...and some sort of glittery vanilla (maybe cupcake?)

OMG yes! I remember the Dr. Pepper flavor, though the cotton candy was always my favorite.
