anyone ever seen this

Mealy amazon loving being petted - YouTube This is my son petting max my mealy amazon. He does this when he gets petted.
Hi Todd ,WOW !! That must have been interesting when you first saw him do that :D I believe its hormonal. Watch how your petting him. Maybe just his head or talk [to him] when he gets like this .I think we all are experiencing this [lots of posts] in different forms.I liked the post on here my birds doing the Coppacabana [SP?] LOL That kind of somes it up:p

I was wondering about it being hormonal but I thought he was past that. He does it for my son, fiancee and her mom and sister....he still wont let me, but I keep trying.

Ha Ha you want him to do this ?

I didnt think you were supposed to encourage hormonal behaviors :) :)

I can't load the video, but Pinkybird has a huge flock and I would trust her opinion if she's saying it's hormonal (shes probably seen it all). You definitely do not want to encourage any hormonal behavior. Their annual "frisky" season can last several months, and they don't ever "outgrow" it (though it may calm down over the years if you don't encourage it). Bad places to touch a hormonal parrot are on the back, wings, and underside. Petting them on these parts of their body during their mating season can stimulate them in a way you don't want.

It's the mobile YouTube link. Just take off the "m." to play it on a computer.

The petting is mostly on the back and sides of the neck but the bird is definitely getting excited.

I suggest reading Rational Parrot: How not to be a Tease. RP - Mating She does a great job of explaining how parrots perceive our behavior when we stroke them.

Wow, yeah I'd say hormonal lol At one point your son pets your mealy down the back to the tail, that's a big no no for how she is acting. Also no back petting. Only pet on the heD and neck. Explain to your son and anyone who pers him that they are essentially feeling him up when they do that, and telling him they want to be his mate.

Thanks for all the info. No I don't want him to do it for me I just want to pet him but he's stubborn. He has always done this even before we got him for about 4 years at least from what I was told. I guess ill tell my son where to pet him from now on.
