1 year old sun conure: Hotrod
Is their beak too big to eat tiny seeds? I was going to order Hotrod the Volkman Avian Science seed for conure/lovebird (pic: http://volkmanseed.com/products/avianscience/as_lovebirdconure.html ) but there are some very tiny seeds in the mix. The seed he has now has very tiny seeds too but I can't tell if he eats the tiny seeds or not, and honesty I'm not sure if Sun conures can? I am not sure if I should order him the conure/lovebird mix, or the parrot mix (pic: .http://volkmanseed.com/products/avianscience/as_parrot.html )

Mine eats small seeds just fine..... and even sometimes will prefer those small seeds than big seeds like sun flower....
you can even give them millet as a treat

I have a green cheek, and he actually prefers tiny seeds to anything else! :)

My amazon eats those little white seeds (assuming those are the tiny seeds you are referring to). They are his favorite, he doesn't even bother sunflower seeds. They're beaks are amazingly agile and well adapted for eating seed, even if it *seems* like it would be to small to be reasonable.

P.S. Ability and desire aren't necessarily the same. Each bird has their own unique taste, so Hotrod may or may not like those seeds. However, he is capable of eating them for sure, it's just a matter if he would like to. I will say, I find a bajillion of those little seed husks everywhere when Kiwi gets some seed mix. It's pretty obvious when they eat them- they crack them in half and take the seed out then discard the husk (typically right in the walkway so you step on them;))

I know he can eat the tiny white seeds that are the same size as the tiny black ones, just not sure if he can eat millet sized seeds. Last night I held a tiny seed between my fingers and gave it to him; I am pretty sure he was able to eat it. I heard him crunching it so I think he was able to.

I know he always goes for the bigger seeds and food items first. I am still not sure which food to order him, hmmm. I am assuming the conure/lovebird one would be better because it is geared toward conures, but the parrot food looks as if it has the tiny white/black seeds, plus sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. Are those items not as healthy for smaller birds? I am not sure! :o

This seeds are fine for small parrots. That said, while seed is PART of a well-rounded parrot diet, no seed mix provides complete nutrition. Nor does any other one type of food. I disagree with those who think seed isn't healthy, it just isn't healthy when it's the bulk of their diet. In nature, parrots eat seeds, but it's not their breakfast lunch and dinner f you know what I mean. In addition to seed, they also need cooked whole grains, small amounts of protein (such as cooked egg, beans and many enjoy tiny bites of cheese), small amounts of healthy table foods and of course lots and lots of fruit and veg. The birds who are the healthiest and live the longest eat a widely varied diet with plenty of fresh food.

Just a personal note- Kiwi gets a dish of just fruit in the morning (the sugar) and veg in the evenings, and once he eats a good portion of the fresh stuff, then he gets the cooked grains mix and usually some sort of birdie bread. Once he is full from a healthy breakfast, I leave a dish of seed in his cage during the day, since it won't spoil. That keeps him from gorging on it, but he still eats a healthy amount.

As Kiwibird says, your sun is more than capable of eating millet size seed, it's just a matter of whether he wants to. My B&G macaw can dehusk millet seeds, so if he can do it with his big old bucket-beak it should be a breeze for your sun! ;)

This made me laugh and think about Loco! I swear he strategically places where he throws his food!!
