Ruby Green Wing Macaw
Hello all -

We have a Ruby Green Wing Macaw (Dancer) and we're going to build an aviary this spring. Any suggestions on types of materials that have worked / held up better than others?

Currently we're thinking hemlock beams with some kind of netting as this would be quite a large space.

Dancer is full flight and unclipped so she needs some exercise space.

Thanks

Tagging along but I see some stainless steel in your future :)

Unless you want to rebuild it every year, 100% stainless steel posts & screening in a grade thick enough to withstand mac beaks. Think about predators. Raccons, foxes, large hawks & eagles even cats, Coyote and others are all strong enough to make a hole and get your parrot. Rodents & insects too - who you think is gonna eat all that food on the ground? Best outdoor aviaries have a concrete pad, StSt construction, rain protection, entry ways locked and secured, etc. Lots to consider and lots of $ too.
