Hello everyone. :)
I'm new here!
Last week I brought home a baby female Eccy, she is nearly 14 weeks now.
I'm worried about her settling in, it's been 6 days now and she is still so nervous, she barely moves around her cage, and she lunges or bites when I try to take her out of the cage. :( When she is out she will sit for a quick pat but you can tell she is nervous. Is this normal, is she just taking a little while longer to warm up to us? At the breeder's house she was lovely and friendly.
Thanks.

Hi KC & welcome,

This is normal behavior for eclectus when they go to their new home. It's called Transition stress. You have to gain her trust & that could take sometime. Offering her a warm feed of formula from a spoon might melt the ice a bit.

I would contact the breeder & get them to show you where your going wrong. I will also PM you some links to go over & it will make sense & understanding how your new feels in her new environment.

Cheers.

Hi KC, just checking to see how things are going with your baby girl.

I do hope she has settled some because they really are a joy to have around.

She's doing a little better, She was sitting on the lounge last night and actually walked up onto me and came for a cuddle which I was so happy about! She likes being really close to my face though and at times she will still reach out and try to take a nip of my mouth or my nose or something lol so it makes me a little nervous, but she is slowly coming along. Still having trouble getting her out of the cage with the lunging, but she is getting better while out. :) Thanks again!

I had an alexandrine that used to get angry when we went near the cage. She loved being out of the cage tho it was strange when you tried to put her back in she would get cranky. I think she just hated being in the cage but also hated anyone else being near her cage
