Not named yet - lovebird
Hi
In about a week I will be buying a baby lovebird.
I know I will get replies saying that I shouldn't but please just give me advice not criticism.
I have already done quite a bit of research, but are there any special needs for baby lovebirds that are not so well known.
The shop selling it to me will also tell me the feeding formula when I purchase the lovebird.
Thanks

May I ask why buy an unweaned lovebird?

It has been proven that unweaned birds do not necessarily create a stronger bond to their owners if hand fed by them. One breeder even mentioned that she has a stronger bond with the birds she *did not* raise vs those that she did.

As far as the lovebird itself... will it need a heated tank to keep warm? Or is it old enough to regulate his/her own heat? Do you know the proper diet to wean the chick onto? Do you know about the weaning stages? Is the shop willing to help out if something goes wrong?

Would help to know more information is all.

So you are saying a weaned lovebird will bond with me with the same as an unweaned lovebird?

Same if not potentially better. It however does vary on the birds.

A bird that you hand raised is more likely to see you as a parent than a companion - or at least that's the idea of it.
