Illiger's Macaw (Loki)
My local grocery store had these in the bulk vegetable bins for $5/lb. price was a little high but I bought a handful to let Loki try them out. They are the same size as his foot toys, so I figured he would at least play with them.

Cooked the first one today for breakfast and he tore into it like a bird that hasn't been fed for weeks. I so love it when he gets excited over food.....eyes pinning and frequent "ooohs"...

Anyone else try these?

Parrots
Baxter - Illiger's Macaw (hatch date 5.1.15);

Taylor - Black capped Conure (RIP 3.14.15 - miss you every day little "Girlie")
I haven't seen these but will keep an eye out as I'm always looking for new veggies for Baxter to try.

If I can find a food he will "tear into" like Loki, I will be very excited.

How did you cook it?

Thanks for the heads up!

Steamed it with some sweet potato and yellow squash cut in small pieces.

Also, Loki seems to really like the part of the squash where the plant was attached. Pretty much any vegetable he likes this part. I cut them off all our vegetables and steam them for him..he loves it.

Loki was a picky eater for a little while, but I keep trying new things. We hit on a small percentage...but we slowly keep building options he likes and are somewhat healthy....and I'm no chef.
