After Bambam was weaned and came home we very s-l-o-w-l-y started introducing him to Spezi, our young Sun Conure. I didn't know if they'd ever get to be friends but I hoped that if nothing else they could co-exist while out of the cage, even if that meant separate tree stands etc...
Well, they have become friends. Spezi loves to preen and it just so happens that Bambam needs a lot of preening so it's mutually satisfying for them. They're like toddlers and after an hour or two they get into a squabble. It's like they're tired and need to go back to their respective cages for some "me time" or something. After 30-45 min I go back and bring them out into the living space again.
Even though they're friends I still keep a VERY close eye on them. There's quite a size diff and I know it doesn't take much for someone to get injured. I'm just happy they can get along. Spezi having someone to play with doesn't screech so much and that's a big bonus.
I'm enclosing a pic of them together. In this pic, Bam has a flip-top head. He literally flips his head completely back and the back of his head lays flat on his back. Is this normal??

Awwwwwwwwwww that's so cute. I'd love to see this its such a cute story.

Aw, they are so cute together!

Really cute pic, and yes, birds of different size can become friends. You are correct that keeping a close eye is necessary as moods can change in a millisecond.

Unusual position for Bambam, don't recall seeing similar. Probably harmless, though!

i was worried when I bought Stewie home how he would react toward Holly, he was in a bad situation with a macaw that he was housed with, he basically lived on the bottom of the cage, the macaw would attack if Stewie tried to get up on a perch to roost or just to get a drink of water, he ate whatever the macaw tossed to the bottom of the cage, when I bought him home he was badly dehydrated, funny thing was he wasn't afraid of me at all, he must have drank 10 ounces of water as soon as i presented it to him, he was afraid of Holly for the first few days, Holly being the loving girl she wouldn't take no for a answer, Stewie finally came around & now they are the best of friends.
