Birdie (BFA), Cloud (Lovebird)
I weaned my blue fronted amazon, Birdie, on zupreem pellets which he loves,
but when i introduced him to roudybush (available here now), he instantly took
a liking to it. i've been offering him each seperately in his dry food cup since
then, and it seems to be working out ok. i'm trying to offer him less zupreem
and more roudybush though because of the higher sugar content in them, but
i still want to offer him a different type of pellets so he doesn't get bored quick.
i want to try harrison's but i want to know which type exactly.

i've got Birdie on roudybush senior diet, and i was looking at maybe getting
him on harrison's high potency. that "housed in a cold climate" special needs
part of the product info caught my eye, since my house is somewhat on the
colder side.

the reason i'm feeding him more than one pellet type is because i asked
around and a lot of people said it's ok to do so and it helps adding a little
variety to the birds diet. if you're against it, please tell me and let me know
why! also, i'd like to point out that if it's not ok to do so.. i'd rather keep him
on roudybush instead of harrison's.

oh and he's 10 months old now, if that helps.

I know there are people feeding different pellets at the same time but for me I stick to one then the main part is you feed the fresh stuffs and the stuffs you can cook for them to supplement.

yea fresh stuffs is a must. i'm just asking about the pellet side of his diet. ^^

I suggest switching pellets, variety is best. I would stay away from the HiPro pellets your zon doesn't need them.

Switch pellets as in.... feed him one type for a while then switch to another?
and i assume you mean switch from roudybush senior diet to daily maintenance?

Switch brands, sizes, formulas. Basically a daily maintenance pellet is best at this stage. I switch around alot, never know when you can't find your usual because of recall, out of stock, etc. That and the formula is different with different brands. Maybe one is lacking something or has too much of something. Always check the expiration date, many lose their nutritional valve over time , especially the more "organic" brands.

oh yea that's a common issue here, not being able to find more of a brand from
time to time. fortunately though that hasn't happened for a while.

k since no one's pitched in yet.. i guess i'll go with harrison's high potency.

i love it too.. but i want to know what's ideal for a blue fronted amazon.
high potency or adult lifetime?

Quote from above,,"your zon doesn't need Hi Pro". I would not feed my zon Hi Pro Pellets of any brand," a daily maintenance pellet is best", i think i said that earlier also.I would wouldn't use any pellets containing more than 4-5% fat.

Joeyx - my DYH is on Roudybush small size and I tried to mix in a little Zupreen large size and he wouldn't eat the new stuff. He tried it a few times but not really successful for me. I also tried mixing all 3 roudybush, zupreen, & Harrison's lifetime and Roudybush are the only pellets he eats. I thought maybe Roudybush small size was too crumbly and wanted to try a bigger size pellet and I've been mixing it for a month now & he still doesn't eat it. I'm not sure if I should still keep trying or just add the larger size Roudybush to see how it goes. good luck and keep us posted. thanks.

i'm asking about what harrison's to feed in conjunction with roudybush for a BFA.
the feeding chart says amazons can remain on high potency after the conversion
period.... so i guess i'll be going with that.

You would be a better judge than any of us. You have Birdie. You can observe and see if there are any good or bad weight fluctuations. Only you can take him to a (avian) vet and determine if he's on the right diet or not.

Harrison's isn't bad, per-say, but it can cause birds to put on weight! For Copperarabians galah that was underweight, that's a great thing! For a bird who's average weight, not so good!
