BFA training

Hi all

I've had Yoshi by BFA since September and have started to train him. I just wanted to get some clarification on something I've heard. There are a few books and my vet saying I should not let Yoshi on my shoulder as its a dominance and obedience thing. But I've also read its ok for amazons to be on your shoulder.

What are your thoughts? Any advice?

there is an old thread about this from a month or two ago that had lots of people's opinions. I let Bosley on my shoulder, but you need to have trust in your amazon AMD know its reactions in different situations.also one of the other huge things besides trust is if you let your bird on your shoulder. they must come down when asked.some people do and some dont, just be very carefull.

i don;t think dominance/obedience has much to do with it. It's better they learn not to be there until you know them much better than you do now. how they react to different situations ,etc. You can't read a bird on your shoulder and have very little control. Yes i let my pet zon of 42 yrs on my shoulder but i have to put her there, She grew up on my hand/.arm and is most comfortable there. Maybe when they learn to step up in any situation, 100% of the time . Every try and get a bird off your shoulder who doesn't want to get down? Your head/face is a bad place for a reaction bite.

I have never allowed Codie on my shoulder! He knows he is not allowed, so therefore does not even attempt it now. I like to be able to see what he is doing
