Based on chris-md's suggestion for the chop thread, we decided to do a separate one for birdie bread and homemade treats recipes shared by our members.

Each link will take you to a recipe for delicious treats for your birds. We recommend that you also read through the replies as there is a lot of great advice & many times more recipes.
We hope you are able to find inspiration and provide inspiration to others by posting your own threads in this forum about the birdie bread or homemade treats you give your birds. Those will then be linked in this thread.

When posting recipe threads, the more detail the better!
Ingredient amounts, cook time and temperature should all be included (if you are cooking it).

Some recipes may require substitutions to make them healthier for your birds. We recommend the following substitutions:

  • Milk – water or unflavored yogurt
  • Sugar – a small amount of pasteurized honey or maple syrup
  • Olive Oil – Some sources say it’s safe, some say it isn’t. If you want a substitute, try coconut oil
  • Butter - apple sauce, Greek yogurt, pumpkin purée, coconut oil, mashed bananas
  • Salt – try a bird safe spice instead
  • Some safe spices are paprika, cayenne pepper, red chili flakes, *Ceylon cinnamon, rosemary, mint, parsley, ginger, dill, sage, turmeric

  • *Only Ceylon cinnamon should be used. Cassia/Chinese cinnamon contains high levels of coumarin which is a blood thinner and can cause severe liver complications

  • "If you find a recipe with an ingredient you are unsure of, please do some searches for it and omit it or make a substitution if you don’t feel it is safe. When in doubt on what is safe and what isn't, this is a great link to read through:

This thread is closed to comments so we can continue to add links in a streamlined fashion.
