This is one of those "I feel so silly doing but my birds seem to like it" things. I have tried this with blue crowns other than my pair with the same results and I was wondering how many blue crown companions have done this or seen their birds doing it. Stand a couple of feet away from the bird, put your hands behind your back and make a slow bowing motion towards him/her while making a low pitched "murrrrrrrrrr" sound. I usually say "bird" and really draw out the r. Almost every time I get a bowing and murrrr response out of both of them. They can get quite excited doing it. And while doing this, I will occasionally whistle loud and high and usually they will both stand straight up and pin their eyes before going back to bowing. I demonstrated it for a bird sitter who has a blue crown and her jaw just about hit the floor.
I am guessing that it is some type of recognition ritual with them. Any blue crown companions ever see your bird doing that? Tried to imitate it yourself? Willing to feel silly and try it?
I wish that I could get a video of it. Somehow I'll have to get my phone set up somewhere and try to record them.
