I used to have some toys requiring the bird to pull back a metal pin, or to rotate a cylinder before a treat comes out. Those obviously are useless for most Green Cheeks, but with my newfound Blue Crown and noting how evil and intelligent he is, I want to get something that caters to his intellect level, which is higher than a GCC's.

Are there any such toys you would recommend, or should I go buy a bunch, see what he plays with, and return the ones he's disinterested in?

Thanks!

i would probably start out with something easy like just a toy and try sticking some treats in it and see what he does

Wow. I really take offense to that comment. GCC's are very inteligent birds as well. My GCC has no problem with the type of foraging toys you describe. He has a wheel that he has to rotate to get food out of each section, and he has a carousel that he has to open each door in a different method to get the food out.

Also, most, if not all bird supply stores are not going to let you return toys once your bird has used them. There's too much risk for transfer of sickness. I know I certainly wouldn't want to buy toys from anywhere I knew accepted used returns.

I totally agree, Maxx, my GCC can figure out any foraging toy I throw at him, and in a very short about of time. The wheel is always in his cage. He also has the 3 cup foraging toy which he figured out in less than an hour. Each cup gets tougher as he goes down them.

It is too bad you never took the time to work with your GCC. I find it
VERY offensive you generalize the GCC that way.

Maxx's cage FILLED with toys.

He also has an outside cage equally filled with toys.

Here are some of the toys I had referred to in my original post:

I'll see if I can find one of those toys you and others had mentioned and shown. The round vertical wheel with compartments looks like one that any of my GCCs could have great fun with. I've never seen that type of toy at the pet stores I frequent (Petco, Petsmart, Atlas). I'll look around online. If any of you responding have direct links to those toys that others like Bobioden mentioned, they would be much appreciated.

More on the toys I'd just pictured above, just for some background information: When buying the toys, they sat on a nearby table for a week so they could see the toys were not a threat. I showed them how they worked and added in their favorite treats. They showed no interest with those sorts of toys. That was the basis for the foundation of my original comment. I'm glad other people have had more luck with those types of toys, but when it comes to foraging toys, my GCCs never responded to them.

Lastly, I apologize for upsetting anyone in the process as well. Re-reading, it was a generalization on my part, but - unlike what someone else insinuated as a response - I do spend time with my GCCs. Including trick training, but from my personal experience (YMMV), the toys I'd pictured above they never took interest in. Again, my OP was glib and I sincerely do apologize.

Here's a link to lots of great foraging toys FORAGING TOYS by MY SAFE BIRD STORE

I have these ones at the moment and have others on my "wishlist". Both my birds have used them. JW Pet Hol-ee Roller for Birds - FORAGING TOYS by MY SAFE BIRD STORE

I've had a few of the shreddable foraging toys in that category as well, they were well enjoyed and demolished.

Thank you MUCH!!

The first link (showing the acrylic box-like feeder) will come much in handy, I'll be buying one right away... the wheel I'm getting as well. (PT722 and PT613 respectively)... I know they like their shredable box foraging toys (cardboard box inside plastic frame that contains food and treats, especially Rusty, so they might get a kick out of the others...)

I've already got many of the hex rubber ball with the bell inside toys - Scooter and Rosie like theirs, to hang off of it or to cuddle. It's quite hilarious to watch. Rusty was apathetic toward these balls, though, but if I find a foodstuff (millet sprig?) to put inside, that might pique their interest... I'll try that and watch closely... Tybbi has one in his cage, but he's been apathetic toward it as well. Millet sprig might do some good...

The rubber ball I stuff with crinkle paper. Pepper loves to pull it all out and throw it around.
