I have a sun conure we call her Ginny but as I've been reading I think she is a he! I recently started bringing my blue quaker to a play gym close to her cage and the sun conure squaks and bobs it's head constantly! I really would love to get them tested I plan to go to the pet store and ask for help! They have lots of experience with birds so I'm hoping they will help! I really am interested in getting them mates!

Just a normal feeding response. Sign of affection for the other bird. Doesn't necessarily mean mating is going on.

My CAG feeds my amazon all the time. They're just buddy birds...

Only reliable way to tell sex is by DNA.

It's near impossible to tell what sex they are without DNA testing. You can check out avian biotech (or another lab) and they'll send you a testing card. You clip your birds nail just enough that it bleeds a little and put it on the card and send it in. You can also pluck some chest feathers and send those in. Anyway, their site will tell you more about it.

As far as getting your birds mates.. I'd really suggest against it. Breeding takes some SERIOUS consideration, time, and dedication.

And if you aren't planning to breed, there's no reason why they should be paired up with other birds. You'd be risking your own relationship with them.

Hhhhmmm... By mates do you mean friends, or lovers? If you just mean friends, that COULD work out, but likely not. If you mean you want them to have babies, then NO. you do NOT have the experience for this, as we can already tell from your post. Keep researching.

Head bobbing is a sign of begging, my birds use it to ask to be moved from one place to another, to have a toy that is in my hand, to be by each other, or to get a treat.
