My question is can parrots be hand tamed and be bonded even if we buy then at older age like 1 yr or so.
I mean don't they remember there previous owner.
Will they bond with the new owner.
hand taming and all...
I wanted to buy a 1 year old Alexandrine and indian ring neck .

1st have you reserched both species??

i got my nut after she lived and bonded with my brother, he had her over a year. after the honeymoon period (2wks), she was a nightmare flying attacks, attacking, biting as in drawing blood.
but she is now settled, 1 yr on

nut was however already hand tame, so we didn't have to tame her as such, just adjust her behaviour towards us

Are they hand raised by a breeder or wild caught? If they were once hand raised, you can tame them again, but expect it to take time if they haven't been handled since.

When Amigo came to us, after living 5yrs. with his previous owner, bonded instantly to our teenage son. The week our son left for college, he bonded instantly to me. I think he just likes being in bondage!

A 1-year-old parrot is still very young. Parrots that are much older can certainly bond to a new owner, though they may not forget previous owners. My first parrot was a Yellow-crowned Amazon who was between 25 and 30 years old when he joined my family, and we quickly formed a strong bond that lasted for the 40 years he was with me. :)

Like cnyguy said 1 year old is still very young. But even older parrots will bond to a new owner. It just takes time and patience. Our amazon was 20 when we got her and she is very bonded to my son.

Yes, my amazon was 28 when I got him and my Grey was 21. The Grey bonded to me in about 1 second, lol! The amazon took a couple of days before he started making friends. But, both of them cuddle up against me and I can have them half asleep in 5 minutes of petting them they are that relaxed with me now.

What I meant with my first question was that if this is a hand raised bird you will likely bond with it faster than if it was parent raised or wild caught. And not knowing your location, some countries still allow the importation of wild caught birds.
