I bought my blue fronted home today. He knows step up in English which is great because I didn't think he did. He is pretty scared right now which I totally understand because we are new to him. He is pretty scared of him cage though. How did I get him to stay in it without getting bite?

Don't take him out of it for a few days. Let him adjust.

When we picked him up he was in a crate. We can't get him to go in the cage at all without running away from us or trying to bite

Brittani - i hate to tell you this, but you ARE going to get bitten - that's just part of parronthood, so try to get a hold of your fear. If you are saying you can't get him into the cage, maybe you will need to 'towel' him, wrap him in a towel and then grab him and put him into his cage, alternately you could use oven mitts, but careful because a macaw has a very strong beak. And after you do get him in his cage, I'd take Legal Eagle's advice and leave him in there for a couple of days to adjust to his new circumstances, and to you. I'd spend time with him, talk to him (I'm a huge baby-talker to my birds and dogs lol), sing to him (I'm doing that now with 2 cats we've rescued), and just read or sit by him so he gets used to you.

Also ,In the future after he gets used to things .Have a stick handy ,to have him step up on [when you need to get him back in his cage ]and wont go. I do that with my Bluefnt. Good Luck :)

How are you putting him in the cage??? IF he would step up, do a quick swift going from the bottom up behind the perch with him in your hands. With the perch right in front of him and then say step up. They usually would just step up onto the perch on their own. I hope I'm explaining it correctly. It's easier for me to show then to type it....

I have had great success with a stick.
