I finally found some broccoli at a local supermarket that is salt free. Just broccoli. It's in a steam bag but I assume you can still take individual pieces out and it'll be safe for my CAG right? This may seem stupid but I'm very careful with what I feed her.

Frozen broccoli is great. Jut microwave it to soften it up and most parrots will tear into it.

Okay great! I had frozen foods before but they all had salt so she's been eating fresh lately but frozen is easier and all the frozen with salt got tossed out and i've been struggling to find salt free. But yay! I'll giver her some now:)

I think its better to just steam it than microwave it. Healthier way to cook food. They do like the broccoli.

Microwave ovens work because water molecules are excited by microwaves. Ergo, a microwave oven steams vegetables. No difference whatsoever.

My Noble macaw loves steamed broccoli. He sucks on the heads of it and then spits out the remains after he has gotten the flavors out. Its kind of gross to hear him sucking away but as long as he is eating it I not concerned with him sucking it.

He does not like it raw. Does any parrot like raw Broccoli?

Mishka is not a fussy eater at all, raw or cooked, anything and everything, he guzzles down. Loves Broccoli like we love ice-cream.
BUT when having mixed vegetables, he demands a little sprinkle of cheese, otherwise it's a no cheese no eat vegetables LoL

Lol he sounds spoiled. Pearl will eat anything but sometimes only certain parts. She only eats the tops of broccoli but when it comes to carrots, phew she stuffs more in her mouth as soon as she swallows. Sometimes she tends to drop some because she's in such hurry to eat them haha.

Just to let you guys know the most nutritious parts of the broccoli plant are the leaves. If you serve only frozen type you are missing the best part.

Hmm I didn't know that. I'll try to get some and mix it in with the frozen broccoli or I'll buy fresh broccoli next time.

I had no idea! I will definitely look into that.

Another FYI that maybe others don't know is that the spongy part of the broccoli is actually the flowers. If you look at it under a magnifying glass, you will be surprised. The same thing with cauliflower.

Okay...enough trivia for the day. :09:

By the way...don't hesitate to give a parrot raw (washed of course) broccoli. The hard stems are an excellent chew toy, with the added bonus of being tasty. I don't think they actually swallow much of it, but they do like to destroy it.

Typical kid!!! :62:

My guys LOVE broccoli, fresh, frozen, warm or cold. Ida loves to help me chop it up for everyone. :)

I love questions about parrot nutrition. I have been to several seminars on the subject and read many books on same. It is nice to pass on the knowledge.

Thanks for sharing this.
