Hey everyone,

friend of mine has a 1.5yr old budgie with an overgrown nasal area and some browning. I've seen it before in budgies but what is it? Is it contagious? Is it genetic? Can it be cured?

Note again that it's not my bird so I don't have any other photos.

Thank you :)

Budgies are really far from my comfort zone.

As you know, infections of skin and/or the nasal area is the first place to start. Check if it is crumbly and/or segmented, like a wound oozing.

Cancer or like non-cancerous bulbs are also a possibility!

It likely has occurred recently and quickly and that would rule-out a deformation.

A closer observation, likely hands on is needed to get a better understanding of what it is. With great hope one of our Budgie Specialists will lock it down much better.

An Avian Vet visit is always a proper choice.

I agree with Sailboat. I would like to mention that it could also be scaly face, which is contagious and can spread very quickly to the rest of the flock. It is fairly easy to treat but can progress quickly and be deadly. As mentioned I recommend seeing an avian vet to get some tests done.
