buying nuts in the shell

I cannot find them at any of our grocery stores - (Kroger, Walmart) - and I think they must be considered a 'seasonal' item. Mattie's former owner gave her LOTS of peanuts, which I have read are not the best choice. She likes almonds and there was one hazelnut in her mix that she devoured. I want to use them for treats and training and wondered if there was somewhere online you would recommend.

Is there a heath food or whole foods store near by? They carry a lot of them and may be willing to order if they dont.

If you have a local farmer's market, you could try and see if they sell raw, unshelled nuts. I've been rather lucky that my farmer's market still has them.

I give both my macaws nuts on a daily basis. I fill them in their foraging toys, and they love it.

May I also suggest pistachio nuts in the shell. It is a great foraging treat because it does not fall easily out of the holes of whatever forager you might have, making the bird work harder to get it.

They sell unsalted, uncooked ones at Fresh & Easy and Trader Joe's. In fact I am headed there soon to pick up a bag!
