We received and constructed Buzz's new cage and Friday he went into it on his own. It's bigger than I expected, roomy but not roomy enough in Buzz's opinion because I can still reach in and touch him. He's decided he is not ready to come out which is fine but I am glad to see him roaming in the cage. I put extra perches in, toys, have some toys I'm making for him. He seems pretty happy and is still slow to open up but he's coming around

Here is Buzz settling in.

Lovely pic of Buzz in his new house and he looks real proud of it too. Its Great that he likes it and took to it straight away...he looks real happy there :)

Buzz has this look of a teenager yelling, "Mom! Get out of my room!"

Looks like Buzz is settling right in:) I so love that picture!

I've found that my Perjo likes the chew toy (in the background) the best, and she devours one completely in less than 1.5 hours. Buzz looks happy.

Buzz is such a handsome guy, love the photo! I know he is going to have a great life with you and your family, Tracey!

Handsome Buzz, spacious cage, love that perch!

Here are some pics of Buzz's cage, full pics. I've left him alone other than doing routine items like food, water, cleaning, etc. I have been interacting with him, mostly talking, and I have been asking him to step up several times a day. He is still growling, won't step up but that's OK. I keep doing this to keep close interaction going while he loosens up. I was very surprised and smiled when I woke up this morning. Buzz and Buddy were throwing whistles at each other. Buddy would whistle, Buzz would repeat him, lol. That's a good thing!

His cage looks sparse, but I've got some toys in process and ordered some too. I had a kabob in his cage and he turned it into toothpicks in minutes, lol! He loves to destroy and forage so he is starting to be active.

I found one thing I don't like about the cage and that is the gap between the bottom of the cage and the tray (has the white liner on it). I have three dogs that think it's a buffet line. They have even pulled the trays out. So they are banned from the office 100% of the time, the clips to keep the trays in weren't installed and were thrown away. This goes back to that saying that men don't need the instructions.... But that's not a big issue, Husband did a great job on the cage. However even with the clips in place I'm going to have to block the gap to keep the dogs out of it.

Haha I do see the "buffet line" there! I bet I know who is first in line too...:54:. I hate that space too, and had a hard time finding a cage that didn't have a huge gap like that when I was looking for Raven's cage. He and Griffin liked to go in there in the old cage, and for obvious reasons I needed a cage where they couldn't do that anymore.

How are you thinking of blocking the gap? It was time to get rid of my old cage anyway, but before I did I was thinking about attaching clear plexiglass panels or some sort of stiff plastic in a way that you can remove or lift it up to clean easily, yet that won't let the birds or in your case dogs get around it and have access to the tray.

Ooh. that gap is big. Mine is a good bit smaller, but I found when I attached the seed catcher thingies it deterred the dogs from sticking their noses in for a treat. They are angled up and out in a way they makes it difficult to get their (rather long) tongues in there. I didn't want to use the see catchers for esthetic reasons (u.g.l.y.) but ended up using them for utility.

Someone got busted this morning! I'm sure Julie can't guess who it is. His head doesn't fit in the gap but knowing my luck and his appetite I'd find him with his head stuck in the gap lol.

I like the plexiglass idea. I think I need to block it entirely to keep Canelo out of it.

How about just a small piece of opaque fabric. If dogs can't see it they often don't bother with it.

Terrific cage, wonder what the designers were thinking? Perhaps they deliberately created the gap to ensure a "self cleaning" cage? :D Did the instructions suggest dogs as an optional accessory? :D

There's that guilty face lol :D! I have no idea why so many cages have that gap. What purpose could it possibly serve except for parrots and dogs going where they shouldn't!

You're welcome to send Canelo to stay here. I wuv him <3.
