Cage vs. Flight Room?

Looking at getting a macaw and turning a room of my house into a flight room. Should I still get a large cage and cage my bird? Ive heard from some that Macaws can be too destructive and tear apart the room. The flight room will contain a large variety of toys, and the mac would be out in the rest of the house while Im home. Any thoughts? If a flight room is sufficient, any toys I should avoid putting in there since he wont be supervised? My fiance is home pretty much all the time, and Im planning on installing a video camera in the room so I can check on my Mac throughout the day via the web. Thanks for any advice.

I have two loose in my house at the moment... BUT THEY ARE TRAINED!!!

Until they are trained, they can get themselves into trouble, or they can be destructive. Being out loose like that is a privilege. First train them up!

You're still probably going to want a cage, if for nothing else than how are you going to keep the bird out of your stuff when you clean. As they get trained up, you simply leave the door open and they come and go as they please. The cage becomes "the nest."

The bird room concept works very well, though. I've had a bird room in my house for AT LEAST 12 years. My downstairs has two living rooms. One is for people, the other is birdroom.
