Can I still tame my Orange Wing Amazon

Good day. I *bought a Amazon Orange Wing of about 2 years old. His name is Popeye and he is a very friendly parrot. He talks well and is semi tame. He will kiss you and eat sugar from your mouth but will not allow you to touch him or pick him up. As soon as you bring your hand or finger close to him he starts screaming and tries to bite. He has bitten me before but he does not bite with force as if to just warn you. I would like to know if it is possible to still tame him at this age and if so what should I do. I have only really kept small birds such as cockatiels and love birds but I believe that with patience and a lot of perseverance you can make progress with your bird.
I think that it is obviously a lot easier if the bird is very young however I think it sounds like your bird is biting because he is a little scared. Once he has gained your trust you should be able to make progress. I think that the progress will be very slow and hardly noticeable at first and then over a couple of months you will hopefully find that the bird gets more and more tame.

I got my love birds in September and they were sacred of me at first. I spent a lot of time with my hand in their cage just getting them used to my hand. They wouldn't come near me. After a while of doing this they started stepping on my hand tempted with millet. I let them fly around the living room every day. Then they hop on my hand and go back in when they are tired. We let them out in the evening so they have usually had enough by the time its time to go back in.
There is some great advice on many websites about rewarding every good thing your bird does which re-enforces good behaviour and helping with taming. Good luck with your new adition to your family!!

It is absolutely possible for you to earn your new baby's trust. Patience, patience, and more patience.

Please, NEVER feed your bird directly from your mouth. Humans' mouths are quite dirty and full of bacteria that may hurt our birds. Also, please don't feed your bird sugary foods - it's not good for them.
