I have a male parrotlet and a female budgie. They are both still young the parrotlet is only 3 months and the budgie is under 6 months old. I have noticed lately that my parrotlet is trying to mount the budgie. When i first brought the budgie home (i already had the parrotlet) they were being housed separately but now they have become so attached to each other they almost wont let me separate them. As soon as i take one out the other one is calling for it. As cute as they are together I was just wondering if one day they would be able to have babies. And yes I know some people are going to tell me not to house them together but they aren't even trying to slightly hurt each other. :yellow1::greenyellow:

Yes, they can mate.

Unlikely to occur. I would say impossible, but stranger things have happened. There is a snippet of info in a book saying that a budgie has hybridized with a lovebird, but I'm reluctant to believe that it occurred. I am only aware of parrotlets hybridizing with other parrotlets.

I don't see the harm in housing them together. If they have become friends they should get along fine in one cage as long as neither of them has shown any cage possessiveness. I have a male Ringneck and female Quaker that is housed together. I got the Ringneck first then the quaker a year later and they were instant friends. Neither had any cage possessiveness and they share a cage fine. As soon as the Quaker come out of the cage my Ringenck calls her they are really good mates. As for the potential babies. They could mate and possibly have babies but I would prevent that if possible as they could be born with all sorts of defects. I had this discussion with a breeder about the Ringenck and Quaker. I hope this helps.
