I know it seems logical because pumpkin is orange and poop turns orange for a little while.. but I just wanted to make sure, better to be safe then sorry right?

So lately Audrey had decided that pumpkin is her most favorite food ever and I've been making it for her almost every day. I would say probably 4-5 days of the week. I've noticed sometimes there is an orange poop down the bottom of the cage but I can't tell when she is doing this as its always old. It would just be from the pumpkin wouldn't it? Every poop is not orange either, most are normal then you get the occasional orange one lol.

I just wonder because she's decided she loves pumpkin for about 3 months now (Has never even bothered to try it before then lol!) but I've only noticed the orange poops recently. Maybe there have always been one or two but I just don't notice it. So what are your thoughts? Do your birds poop change colour with what they eat?

With my conure, if he eats anything colored, his poop is that color.. my wife gave him a red baked o, and his poop was red.. I didn't know about the baked o and freaked out.

So yes.. food can change poop color.

Sunshines turns orange when he eats sweet potato. So I would think pumpkin would do the same. Oh yeah, blueberries turn it purple. Lol.

Haha okay, thanks for the reassurance guys! its kind of freaky to find odd coloured poop LOL!

If you keep doing this, she will be orange by next Halloween. It's up to you, if you want an orange parrot.

I hear pumpkin is actually very good for birds because of all the vitamin A. :-)

This is good to know. I have not yet found a colored poop, but Im pretty sure that without a heads up I would lose my mind when I found one! The vet would be laughing at me again

Haha I know, my vet must love me, all the $$$ she makes when I freak out about something LOL!!!

Hahahahahaha Remy, I think she would be cute as an orange eclectus!! :P Yeah its great for them and since she wont touch carrots or sweet potato its the next best thing lol!

Ive been lucky that my vet will tell me over the phone that Im over-reacting. I called because I didnt know about beak grinding and thought he was dying (in the middle of the night). I also called when Mango sneezed because I convinced myself he must have a cold. She assured me that birds can sneeze some times, and I almost insisted on coming in to get a check up, but she convinced me to wait and see if he keeps sneezing... he didnt... Then I called because he was over eating... and then again because he was sleeping a lot during the day. I almost called about molting but found reassurance here and on various websites. I imagine I annoy them, but Id rather be safe than sorry. I really dont know much about birds and I know it can be hard to tell when they are sick. A colored poop would definitely upset my ulcer if I didnt know that it could be from food. I love this forum, Ive learned so much.

Haha aww, I don't think its such a bad thing though, I always worry, it just means we care so much!! Its better to care and ask 10000 questions then to not care and neglect them! :) Our birdies are lucky to have us!

My Sam goes GA-GA over blueberries, and yes, you guessed it...his "business" comes out blue. :D

Haha I think I would be scared if I saw that! Audrey eats blueberries but her poop has never been blue lol!!

GULP. Now I am worried. Well not as blue as that <-- smiley, but definitely blu(ish).

Oh no, what would that mean if her poop doesn't change colour lol! :(

Maybe I haven't been looking at it close enough hahaha!

Hahahahaha a couple of weirdos, we are! :P

I have a microscope.... I went through my horses poop for parasites once....

Eclectus do supposedly have a longer digestive tract than other parrots.... so that might be it...

Although my mitred conure poos were 'rainbow' colored when he ate Zupreem Fruitblend, and a B&G macaw on the same diet had normal colored droppings. That concerns me more than droppings possibly changed from natural colors!

BTW, if you'd like a fright, try feeding black cherry juice! ;)

JerseyWendy typed the words out of my keyboard...Sprite LOVES blueberries and his poop always comes out blue/purple and watery :P

LMAO. My fids LOVE when I juice Pomegranates, which aren't nearly as "dark" as black cherries, but I do remember what their droppings looked like after gorging themselves. I think I'd need an ambulance if I fed them black cherry juice :D
