hello im new to the forums. I was givin this parrot today and i dont know what species it is.

looks like a senegal parrot

I third it! Senegal! Lovely little parrot. :)

Senegal and it is a orange Brest, they come in three Brest colors yellow, orange, red:)

Haha, good luck my friend, they have quite the diva personalities! -personal experience ;p

they are truly a one owner bird, speaking from personal experience too :)

Yep, you are the proud owner of a precious little Senegal. You may want to do a bit of research on this species. They are touted to be a BIG parrot in a little body and that description isn't far off the mark either. They can also be very affectionate and loving one minute and the next minute turn around and nail your hand with that little tiny sharp beak.I agree with the one owner bird thing to a point. The Senegals that I have been around including my own has their favorite person. But they will still allow others to interact with them to include holding them and giving them scritches and such. If they don't then it's either the particular birds personality or more than likely how it was raised by not properly socializing it.

Thank you so much for the speedy response. Shes gonna be a tough one to handle thats for sure. i beleive its a girl , they say if the green stripe goes all the way down her chest its a female.

As others have said, you new little buddy is a Senegal parrot. Does the little guy/girl have a name? I know he/she is brand new (and I assume you are brand new to parrots), but I just have to say, that cage really needs some toys! All parrots are curious little busy beaks, and need lots of fun toys to keep them intrigued. I would also highly recommend picking up some books at the petstore on general parrot care, as well as species specific care (if available). Parrots are a whole different animal than other pets, so you have a lot of work (and fun) ahead of you as you and your new friend bond and learn about each other. Congrats, best of luck, and don't be afraid to ask questions as they come up (lots of very experienced parrot owners on here).
