Canary next to a cockatiel

Can I put my canary's cage right next to my cockatiel's. I know they can't live together in the same cage, but is it possible to put their separate cages close to each other? Will it create stress for the canary?

Try it. If either of them is stressed then move them further apart, but I used to keep a pionus next to a pair of budgies and it was fine. Of course it depends on the individual bird.
