Does anyone here have a canary winged parakeet? I met one today. Upon first look I thought it was a green quaker but it had yellow on the wings and a different face than a quaker. Very cute and sweet but I've never heard much about them.

evesta, I have 2 of them. they are loads of fun. If one comes to me, the other is right behind him. They can get a bit loud. They love fresh fruit and vegies. If you get one please keep in touch.

they are wonderful birds! i dont have one, but i can so close to getting one. they are adorable, cuddly, playful, and have a big bird attitude :). are you planning to get one?

when i got my 2 canary wing babies, they looked so much alike, that i couldn't tell them apart. so i was just calling them boo-boo. now that they are six months , the one has a little darker beak and feet. i guess it's time i give them their own name. still don't know if their boys, girls or a boy & girl. please help withnames.

I don't think I'll get him but he is such a sweetie!!! I didn't know anything about them but Chalupa is such a doll. They are asking $400 for she/he, so cute, hope he gets a home soon. I will keep the bird type in mind in the future, pretty birds.

Hellooo! I have one too! You are so right about the fresh fruit and veggies. We have to restrict her fruit intake now because she would eat it all day and gave herself a yeast infection in her beak from all the sugar! Oops! Canary-wing parakeet high-five!

help! can anyone tell me what is going on. 2 canary wing parakeets,7 mos old. got them at 4mos,together. now one seems to be trying to grab the other ones foot, also notice it has been trying to climb on it's back. don't know if they are boy or girls, that's why i call them BOO & BOO. i don't like the foot pulling BOO 1 is doing to BOO 2.

My Linnie brothers do the same foot biting and try climbing on each other, they are around 6 months. I was worried at first but have figured out it is just horse play, like play fighting. They also try to knock each other off the perch sometimes using their feet;) I wouldn't worry unless it looks like one is really hurting the other.

THANKS, You are right, I've seen them push each other down. Your answer makes me feel much better. Guess I'm just a over proctive birdie mom.

ivysaur, How old is your canary wing? What it's name? Do you know weather a boy or girl? With my 2,they get very, very, loud, They say , they more quite if you only have 1.

Mine's name is Ivy! Hence the username :) She is less than a year old but we don't know for sure, and she is a girl because I decided so (lol). Not like it matters or anything. She is the best bird! Really a dream come true. She is only loud when I leave the room or when she's excited to see someone. My favorite noise she makes is her happy little kisses/chuckles whenever she gets her morning veggies! Do yours make that noise too?

Man you sure got that one right! There is so much attitude packed into my little bird. Her "angry sound" makes me giggle every single time! She thinks she's so tough ;)

lol they act so big and scary, but are little fluff balls! the ones at the pet store will all go "meeehhh...meeehhh...MEEHHH!" when you go to pet them. then you start scratching their head and they realize "hey! that feels great, a little to the left please". i always said they have more bark then bite...then i got bit lol

how would one even go about finding a canary winged parakeet? I don't believe they sell them in pet stores here in buffalo, ny :(

Hi Wulfie - keep an eye on craigslist (of all places). I've seen several on craigslist (but I watch from NJ to Pittsburgh & up to Niagara Falls because that's the territory I sometimes travel for work).

Just a thought.

ivysaur, boo1 & boo2 are making little sounds, the one is pretty bird, they have said a few other thing but not real clear. they love to sit on my shoulder and talk in my ear. it's like mutt & jeff, if one does something, the other has to do it. i'm having trouble putting them back in their cage, they bite me,and yell. otherwise they are very sweet,. any ideas. i think it would better to have gotten only one at the time, but couldn't leave one behind. it was only the two of them.

Hi evreyone. I also have a canary winged/Bee Bee Parrot. She will be 6 months old on August 22. Birds I have loved and lost over the years include an African Grey, Emma, 2 Lution Teils, Sunny and Sweetie and a Quaker, Peek-A-Boo. I am in love with this little bird! She is so spirited, loves attention, and loves to be cuddled. She (the vet and I both think it is a female) would rather be held than in her cage (she tries to crawl up my arm when I try to put her back in her cage) She also loves fruits and veggies and her pellets the most. She is constantly clogging up her water bottle with her pellets because she likes to soften them with the water. Genius! She is starting to say "Peek-A-Boo", "Hi" and "I Love you." I am so glad I found this rare little treasure!

I saw one at petco and one on Craigslist, which leads me to believe there is a local breeder. They seem like wonderful little parrots. I'm hoping I might see some at our local bird fair:)

"meeehhh...meeehhh...MEEHHH!"

YES!!! Their angry sound is SO CUTE!! "look how scary i am!!!" Just now she was making it at me because I wouldn't let her jump INTO my cereal bowl. I'm such a hard-a**, I know. hahaha

Hi TsunamisMom!!! My little girl just wants to be held, too! Aren't they the best birds ever?! The lady who had mine before me said she was "too loud"... she just wanted some cuddles, darnit!
