Hi ! I would like to make a car perch for my macaw, but I had some trouble with the PVC. I bought some but it just couldnt be put together by rubber hammer - it had to be heated by this weird thing and then put together. I just wonder how do I distinguish PVC that can be put together easily?

Also, what size of PVC should I use? What would you reccomend?

Thanks a lot!

I really don't know what you are talking about.
PVC pipe at the hardware store is assembled with threaded ends or solvent-weld. You swab the end and the connector with this gel, then push together with your hands easily. No hammer required.

Looking on Wikipedia, I see “Additionally, PVC pipes can be fused together using various solvent cements, or heat-fused (butt-fusion process, similar to joining HDPE pipe), creating permanent joints that are virtually impervious to leakage.

So either you got some unusual stuff, bought a heat thingie instead of normal fittings (but the pipes are the same?), or bought HDPE instead of PVC.

Size: see how hard it is to bend. Get what's stiff enough for your purpose at the needed length.
