Red Throated Conure - Casper | American Budgie - Zeus (R.I.P)
Hello all.

I haven't posted a thread about Casper in a couple weeks, and he is now clearly saying his first words.

It came as a total surprise, but as we went to clicker train a few days ago, after I asked him to 'Step up' he looked right back at me, and clearer than day told me to 'Step up'. This is all he can say that's audible but boy does he say it a lot now. We're gonna start working on some others like Hello and Pretty Boy soon!

Also, does anyone know anything about Conures being particularly Temperamental? Casper will be on my shoulder for 20 minutes perfectly content and out of nowhere latch down on me drawing blood or pinching really hard? Does anyone know any way to go about working on this?

Other than that, he's doing great. I'll upload some pics/vids of him when I get home from work!

Cant help with your question but just wanted to say congrats on the first words. I try to be consistant with CHarlie. Like first thing in the morning I say good morning an same with good night and anything fruit, veggie or treat I give him I will tell him what it is. Hes only 5-6 weeks old so nothing out of him yet but someday hopefullt. Looking forward to your pics and vids.

BTW just thought of it but im sure someone with more knowledge will explain. But, maybe Casper is trying to tell you something? Thats my thoughts but asking for what is another thing huh lol

Awee!!! How cute!

I call Charlie, my mitred, a "my-turd" for a reason! ;) He can be bratty and temperamental, although not in the same way as Casper! If I don't pay direct attention to Charlie, then he'll sit and preen himself on my arm, maybe wonder up to my shoulder and back down to the other arm, or hop across my lap to switch arms, maybe preening my arms, sitting on my shoulder and preening my face and neck, roam the desk, checking things out, maybe knocking them over. It's only when I touch him when he doesn't want to be touched or if I mess with something that he either doesn't like or doesn't want me messing with because he'd rather play with it himself that he'll snap and try biting me!

Without knowing what is triggering Casper to snap like that, it's hard to say. Is he bored sitting there? Maybe plenty of foot toys, bottle caps, beads etc would help? Or has something startled him?
