I'm sorry, I'm sure it's been asked and answered dozens of times but my search skills must need some work. Are the little cat toy balls with the bells inside ok?

Thanks and sorry again for the repeat question.

Lisa

As long as the bird can't get to the bell, they should be fine. The bell itself is most likely not made with stainless steel therefore not safe. Keep an eye on the bird and make sure he/she doesn't break the plastic of the ball to get to the bell. If they do - throw the ball out and get a new one.

Aleta loves to play with them, but destroys them quickly. I found at my dollar store a larger ball that has a small cat ball inside it, making it much harder for her to break open, but still gets the rattling bell noises.

I'd say NO because of the little bells. Depending on what size beak you have working on those, accidents can happen.

We've had too many "accidents" lately, including metal poisoning, so I always use extreme caution. :)

Generally speaking they are too flimsy for a bird. And then the bell becomes a choking/ingestion hazard.

So anything bigger than a budgie, I'd say no...

Be careful with the kind that have larger openings if you have a smaller bird. Peeko got his leg caught in one once, but thankfully I was right there and could help before he got hurt.
These are the kinds to watch out for.

He isn't destructive with plastic toys, so it isn't an issue with him, but it may be for larger or more destructive birds.

i use them for cooper. he doesnt destroy them really. he has broken one, that took like a year just of normal use. but make sure if they get broken to replace them. they are cooper's favorite toys!

If your bird just rolls them around, then get the solid balls. The balls that are kinda like lattice work with the openings are a bigger worry. The bells are a worry, but also if the plastic gets cracked. But out of all worries the ones with the slots or openings would be my biggest concern between beaks and feet.

Wiffle balls are a safer choice and you can get them in different sizes. They don't come with bells obviously, but I am guessing you could stuff other things inside to get attention (like nuts). I stuff shredded paper into them and then poke qtips in and out the other side. That is a huge hit with the cockatoos, but everyone likes to pull the paper out!

Hope that babble helps a little!!

I use the little plastic balls with holes in them - I hang them on chains and stick sunflower seeds in the holes, so Parry has some nice foraging exercises. :) The cat toys are very sturdy, so I don't see any problem with them. I also have one larger ball sitting on the counter in the kitchen (I haven't decided how to use it yet) and if Parry happens to be near it he would furiously attack it and roll it all over the table making me laugh into tears. :)
