Centerpiece wood as a playgym??

There's this person selling grape wood on Craigslist. He used the grape wood as a center piece for his wedding. Is it safe? Do these kinds of things have a specific coating that could be harmful? I would love to make a playgym for a future bird.

Yay! SO EXCITED! And they would be fine as wooden toys instead of a playgym, right? I just found your PVC playgym tutorial. I'm planning on doing that instead!
