Chewy is my Rose Breasted cockatoo, the little guy in my avator, he's my baby. I got him from a petstore who sold sick birds. Did I know they sold sick birds? I knew they did once but I thought that they were through with that. My fault I know.
I got Chewy from them. He looked really healthy. Played screamed bit, ate and did everything normal.
Then about 3 or 4 months into having him I noticedt hat he was not right. So I took him into the vets. The vet said he was anemic. That his calcium cou nt was so low that he shoudl be dead. He actually made my friend who was helping me take care of him after we found out bout his blood test results, go make sure that he was still alive. He was still alive obviously.
The vet told my friend that she knew more about birds then he did and to keep it up. The next day we took him to the university. The results of those blood tests came back that we got his calcium under control. And he came home in three days. he's my baby I depend on him for a lot.
He's my "therapy" bird Dr's not included.

Anxiously await the photos!!!

What a heartening story of Chewy's. I've been through illness with my birdies (Timothy and Mojo, both--and possible, but undiagnosed epilepsy with Cecil) and it is horrible.

So glad for such a positive, blossoming outcome!
