Hi

I have read that chilli can be given to parrots does this include Lorikeets? and is it fresh or dried chilli?

i've seen dried chillies in food mixes?? not sure about fresh though, and i cannot find a site that says no fresh chillies

thanks will give him one today and see if he likes it

lol!!! bless i was surprised to see some birds liked chillies, not tried the nut on a chilli but she does like foods with them in, especially these hot noodles i do lol

Fresh chillis are good w/lots of Vitamin A, the dried have less Vit A. Don't know about lorikeets, their diet is alot different than most parrots. Valerie, you need to find a good website or lorikeet club to help w/rio's diet.

my INR solo lovessss chillis

Any type of chilli pepper should be fine for your bird, and I believe that lories are fruit eaters so they will probably like them. I give Bob some every time I make something with them, but the most he has done is stick his beak in the bowl.

Chile peppers are 100% safe for birdies. Birdies don't have capsasin rceptors so they don't get the hot, just the yummy flavor. Some peppers count on this and evolved some very tough seed husks so the seeds pass through the disgestive system of birds intact and get pooped out miles away. If you grow these peppers without a birdie's help you have to score the seed husk before it will germinate.
