I was in charge of my niece today when we went back to school shopping. I didn't get to pick the place so we were stuck in Wal-Mart. I could not BELIEVE what they had for little girls.
Since my sweet little 5 year old niece is not a prostitute, we had a really small selection.
I remember one pair we tried on that should have been fine.. her size and all. Was so skin tight on this little twig of a girl. She said to me, "Auntie Sarah, I think these are the right size but what if I get a wedgie? I wont be able to get it out at all!"
Kids say the darnedest things!
One nice pair had buttons up the front and I thought about it.. small child.. big girl bathroom.. 3 buttons.. only 5-6 hours in the school day... I told her if she could button them herself in under 5 minutes she could have them. She couldn't.
We finally found stuff for her, after wading through lying sizes. Apparently, since no one wants to admit to being over weight, they even fudge the kids sizes.
It was really so disappointing. I had to say no to so many things and she didn't understand. I just don't think low-riders are appropriate for small children. She got mad because I had them on, lol. I pointed out that no one wanted to look at my scary belly button with all the cuts and scars anyway. She complained that I still wore it. So then I told her to just be quiet, I'm taller and I get to make the decisions. That got me a snarl so I gave her a piece of candy. That worked :D

Isn't back to school shopping fun. :) Except not at Wal-Mart ew.

Its sad isn't it.
There is a range in a walmart type here that sells push-upbras for 12-13
yr olds.

HA HA HA HA HA!!!!! That's really funny. They have those here i think. Theya re encouraging girls to stuff their bras.

Oh my god... that's beyond ridiculous.

Horrible ... this is crazy ... I am so upset - that this wasn't happening when I was 13! :D :D :D :D Oh, how the times have changed ...

I work in a Mall, I see it everyday, there really isn't anything that surprises me anymore ...

I agree with all you guys, the stuff most kids dress in now is rediculous. There are 13 year olds that I swear look older then myself. Thats kinda scary.

Well like it or not fashion is always a changing. You think it's bad now wait 20 years from now.. By then I'll bet nothing will shock you any more..LOL

Can I recover first from the piercings first? A belly-button'ed jeweled arrow of gold is not quite a sweet-sixteen present... from parents - also definitely not, when said from sweet-sixteener, what I thought her jewelry present would... no words.

My sister got her belly button pierced when she was 16, lol but it wasn't gold. i know people who have gotten it done at 10 years old.

Oh god don't even talk about the piercing thing.. I started with my bellybutton when I was seventeen and things just got way out of hand.
Then came the tattoos, I have 3... My first one was a feather on my thigh, in honor of my birds.
I was soo mad when I had to go for the first surgery and take out my belly button ring..(it was the only piercing I'd left in aside from earrings)
I remember a few days afterwards when I finally became aware of what was really going on and I started complaining to the nurse that it hurt and I didn't want to have surgery anymore and my belly button ring was gone. She was like, "oh, honey.. don't worry.. it's still there and now you have 31 more to go with it!"
Those are STAPLES you MORON.. lol. I really wanted to smack her.

Oh that's gotta suck. I don't even have my ears pierced. And never have either. It's not that I'm not aloud or anything, i could have gotten it done when i was like 5 but i don't want any piercings. I do however want a tattoo. :) I don't know where though, and don't know what.. i haven't put any thought in it yet since i don't plan on getting it for a while. there's not toomnay option where to put a tattoo, specially for girls. I mean you cant put it on your belly, because if you ever get pregnent it goes all stretched.. and you cna put it like on your arm because then you cant get any decent job.. so its hard.

I have one around my wrist. It actually worked out good for me because I was a bartender and I think it made me look tough. I needed that because I was 5'2 and 100lbs lol..
It bothers me sometimes now but I still like it. Makes me feel cool:P I've never sen anyone with anything like it before.. it's a Chinese dragon wrapped around my left wrist with the tail coming down onto a tiny bit of the top of my hand. I did it that way so that it couldn't be hidden. Keep in mind if you ever get one NOT TO DO THINGS LIKE THAT.. lol...:18::eek::18:

Yeap I agree 100% that you need to put them in a place that you can keep hidden. At my job I CAN'T hire anyone who has a tat that can't be hidden by regular clothing ... also piercings are getting crazy too ... can't hire anyone not willing to remove facial piercings ... do yourselves a favor and don't put them any place you can't hide them or take them out ..

I got piercings and Tattoos. I love piercings, not to sure why but I do. Only got 2 now and 3 tattoos, but the tattoos can be hidden. 1 piercing can kinda be hidden if I keep my mouth shut my I'm not to good at that. :D

You think Wal MArt is bad, my sister worked in the kids and toddlers dept in JC Penny, and they had thongs for the little girls :11:- toddler size and up to 5yr old sizes. They had other (Big girl style) cloths too that is unmentionalble. My sister said that they were going fast too. Sad... ver Sad

I don't see what's wrong with thongs? They're just underwear. They're better than the other kind specially when wearing tighter pants because then you cant see the underwear line. I'm not saying i wear them, well i did but my dog decided he liked them more than me. Anyway i don't see the problem with them. LOL :)

What an interesting topic we've gotten in to.

That's true about the underwear line Meghan...but honestly...how many 5 year olds do you know that need to cover a panty line? Haha...personally I'm not a thong person....prefer the seamless stuff...

Whoa whoa...back on topic. Started day dreaming about my favorite store...

In one of my Women's Studies classes we got an artile about how many millions....maybe billions of $$$ that pre-teens spend on thongs each year. Quite disturbing. I'll go back through my old schoolwork and see if I can find it exactly.

That's true.

When your old enough to make your own decisions and understand the consequences then theres no problem with those clothes.
I dressed ...with poor taste for a long time, lol. Short shorts tiny tops.. I used to go quad riding in a bikini and combat boots for gods sake. lol. I knew what I looked like and I was careful not to get myself into a sticky situation, mostly.. Luckily, I grew up :D I've been wearing the shorts lately as they are so low riding they leave all my 'boo-boos' alone to heal:)
A 5 year old isn't going to understand that they are asking for trouble when they bend over to pick up a dropped toy and some disgusting excuse for a human being sees thongs and assumes it's some sort of a flirtation. If we lived in a better world it probably wouldn't matter.
I'm starting to think my kids will wear potato sacks for clothing and hand sewn leather shoes. Maybe I'll yank out my birth control glasses from the army and make em wear those too. (If you've ever seen army issue glasses you'll understand)
That way they'll be safe from anything from China (Walmart recently sickened some folks from the material on flip flops.. ink in the material or something) Plus they'll appear to be very ugly and no one will go near them:)
