Good day everyone,

I‘m new to this forum and I‘m seeking your help because I‘m unsure of what to do.
My cockatiel Tweety is seemingly fine, but there is a red swelling on the bald spot of his head. When I look into it, it looks more like an inverted feather that is trying to break free... but I‘m not sure if I‘m seeing it right. He doesn‘t have any fever, nor does he seem to have any pain when I touch that area. All in all, he seems just fine. He is 10-11 months old and losing many feathers at the moment. I‘m still concerned about his head though.
I‘ll provide 3 pictures for you guys, I hope you can make something out of it :(

Thank you for your help!!!
Lara :yellow1:

The cervical air sack is located about that position.

As with ANYTHING out of the ordinary, once noticed you should get your parrot to a Certified Avian Vet, not a dog & cat one. Parrots are a very specialized field of veterinarian medicine. By the time parrots ( and all flock type birds) start to show symptoms, often they are REALLY sick and I mean sick enough to possibly die. In the wild, a flock animal that shows symptoms of illness is marked as an easy meal for a predator, so flock birds instinctually try to hide those symptoms as long as possible. In companion parrots, any physical change or change in personality or habits should trigger a visit to your CAV ASAP!

I take he was born with the bald spot? I've read that some of the color mutations also have bald spot.

So if the bald spot is normal. Then I think you just have one little wonky feather .

Both my lutino tiels have bald spots behind their crests. However that does seem like it would be like an "ingrown toe nail" I would suggest as Wrench says, take Tweety to an avian vet. It could be something it could be nothing but its always best to get a bird vet's opinion. It may be just something as simple as the vet removing the pin. But never try that yourself as it could be attached to a blood vessel and could bleed a lot. The only thing with this sort of thing is that the area can become infected and then pass to the bloodstream causing sepsis. So yea take Tweety to a vet and make sure that nothing serious is going on there. Best of luck and keep us posted! :)

Thank you very much everyone. Tweety is doing great, it turned out to be a wonky feather as some of you suggested! I‘ll still keep an eye on him, though, of course.
Good day to everyone!
