Confused about pics(not really PF related, but Google Photos related)

So I realised when I upload a pic into Google Photos it automatically disappears from gallery. I have no idea why. This is frustratingly confusing for me, as I am having a hard time uploading pics into the forum due to this issue. Anyone able to help?

I can't help because I don't use it. But I started thinking - is there any difference if I upload pics to Google Photos or Disc? I'm asking because I've just realized that used space is counted from both sites together
