Ok. so I know I said my hubby wont let me have another bird and that hasn't changed but maybe just maybe I can change his mind.

I have come across a 1 year old female gcc sitting at a pet shop. she was apparently tame at a stage but has since become nippy and does not let anyone give her head scratches etc.

I really would like a plain GCC but what would be involved in getting this girl to trust me.

I know about the separate cages and 30 day quarantine, she can stay by my mom for that time (also while I convince DH) I will visit her everyday and try gain her trust.

what else? Pro's and cons pls?

Nippy gcc's take a lot of work, I'm afraid if you only see the little nipper a few hours a day it will be a challenge. My GCC still doesn't trust anyone but me and we have had here almost 2 yrs. I found target/clicker training exercises with very small treats as an award helped. Seeing my fingers as the giver of treats helped them from becoming the treat:) Also be patient, being pushy about head scratches can back fire .

My advice is to make sure everyone you live with is on board BEFORE you get the bird. Don't take chances of needing to re-home a bird before you even bring it home in the first place!

After that, training and adjustments can vary from one bird to the next but first things first IMHO.

I agree if it's not your home birds can be an issue.Whoever pays the rent has the say so. Just make sure everything is clearly spelled out in advance. After that without any major issue a1yr. old is no problem My boy was a rescue basicly given fod and water and that's it.He bit horribly from no socialization. But that wasn't his fault.I taught him to fly at 2 tostep up and be petted and loving. He's a very sweet boy.I put about3hrs. a day 5 days a week for a month to undo his damage. It was worth it to save a life.Bonita :rainbow1:
