Indian Ringneck, Macaw
Hey guys, help me out

I currently have an Indian ringneck, she’s quite antisocial, she’s not scared of us just doesn’t want to hang out with us and likes being on her own and we’re find with her doing her own thing

But i’m considering a new bird, I have plenty of time and love to give, i was considering a conure, can you guys tell me the difference between a green cheek conure and a sun conure? Except for looks?

Or a cockatiel maybe, i’d just like to have a bit more of a cuddly bird who is active and playful, my indian ringnecks only friend is a Quacker

If you seek super cuddly, go with a cockatoo. They are, however, an acquired affinity and require an abundance of attention.

Conures are extremely popular with our members, and they can share experiences and personality differences between variants. As for cockatiels, they are among the most popular of parrots. A lot of "bird" in a small package!

Cockatiels are the best ever. Hands down. I'm completely biased, tho, and happily so. :)

Cockatiels are actually dwarf cockatoos, in fact! They don't just look like mini cockatoos, their DNA has proved them to be such. They are very cuddly, sassy, playful. They can be quite loud(adult males), but still nowhere near the level of a larger cockatoo.

Tiels usually aren't as goofy clowny as a conure, but they do still play and do silly things.

I've had one as my best friend for 17 and a half years, and hopefully will continue to for many more years. In short: cockatiels are the best.

I have both sun conures and GCCs - both can be cuddly and people-oriented, but birds are individuals so not a guarantee. Suns are far louder than GCCs (in my experience), their vocalizations in general have a different sound than GCCs and more people have trouble with their noise. I have 2 GCCs that are cuddly and 1 that is not. Both of my suns are cuddly, one is more so.

I also have a cockatiel and can attest that they are in general a people-oriented bird (again, consider individuals). My cockatiel absolutely LOVES my husband, and will interact with me if he is not available. She is a great companion bird and very much people-oriented. She has a dislike for other birds.

My green cheeck is a snuggler and she and my previous one were never loud. But a GCC despite the huge cuddles and driven to be with you, can and does bite at any perceived slight.
Sun are a little larger, Iouder, and I think less likely to bite. My Quakers are loud and like to make noise all the time, but they are all great snuggles, and very very rarely bite. That's my experience anyway.
Lots of people have problems here with biting GCC, if you read their body language correctly they rarely will , my first GCC never bit me in all of her 17 year life, my current nailed me last night on the lip, that needle too beak really hurts. We were snuggling and the lights were low she got spooked by a dog and bit me fast ;)!

I’m planning to go for a cockatoo after maybe 3 or 4 years when I finish my studies, I’m not very experienced with the big parrots yet except for a Macaw I cared for so I want to get one when i’m 100% sure I can take care of it properly and have all the required needs

They’re super cute, i’m definitely considering one!

Thanks for the info! Sounds exactly like what I’m looking for, I just hope that whatever bird I get will get along with my ringneck

We don’t have any young kids that can annoy them for them to get aggressive and I’ll be sure to read into their behaviour and body language so i hope everything will be ok, thanks for the info!

'Tiels are sooooooooooooo wonderful...
And while so many species have so much to recommend them, cockatiels are a marvel.
Good for you, for reaching out and wanting to make responsible decisions!
